Cross Timbers exists to help ordinary people experience the extraordinary life Jesus offers.
Remember, God got you through the past and He is at work to get you through today. Cross Timbers started in a bar, moved to a barn, and now the bubble. When CT was conceived, Toby was in intense therapy dealing with severe anxiety; Brian had just lost a child. The church was started by two men dealing with their brokenness and trying to live life in Jesus. The people who started the church, and built the heart of the church, were people who loved Jesus and were willing to interact with believers and non-believers. Many non-believers came because there was no judgement, but strong conviction. The church moved out of the bar and built the barn on the front of the property; They had no formal plans but built it as place to gather. The leaders were discouraged from planting in Argyle because it was such a small area back then, but people began coming from all over. The dream was to come to the community and see what God would do. God always has something bigger than you dream.
The CT mission statement is to help ordinary people experience the extraordinary life that Jesus offers. We are a church all about helping people in the community and helping believers learn to follow Jesus. As we learn to follow Jesus, we learn to share about Jesus.
As we reflect on the past, there are moments of impact and touching the lives of others where Jesus showed up. The teaching on Sunday morning is good, but so much of the impact happens throughout the week. As we reach out to the community, that’s where the church meets needs.
As we look to the future, things may look different but the heart of service will continue. The identity of CT serving the community and sharing Jesus doesn’t change. Jesus told his disciples that they are going to be different; live differently; and speak differently from all the people around them. Jesus told them that the world will know Him by how differently the disciples love. The world will know the disciples follow Jesus because of the way they love.
CT is different because we love people the way that Jesus loves and in the world today, that is very different. Jesus was acquainted with grief, and he wept. Jesus found time to weep for others. He didn’t want to go to the cross but asked the Father for His will to be done. Jesus’ pain on the cross was ultimately his purpose. As we live out our lives, we want to be real but not rattled. As we acknowledge the pain that this life brings, we can also offer hope, joy and peace in the middle of the pain.
1. Who is in your life today experiencing pain that you could sit with, and share their pain?
2. What pain and affliction have you experienced that allows you to comfort others?
3. How is God using your afflictions to live out your purpose as a follower of Christ?
4. What is preventing you from living out the purpose God has for you?
Psalm 77:11: I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.
