Philippians 1
Message Summary: Turn your focus off of yourself, and focus on serving others like Christ did. Jesus made himself a servant, so we are to be servants. There are 3 key points in Paul’s 4 letters to Philipi: Humble yourself, Be like Christ, and Serve others. We’re to encourage others with our words, actions, money and love. Don’t focus on if a person deserves it or not because everyone deserves to be served by us. We are followers of Jesus. Paul stated that Jesus is Lord, Savior, and King! Jesus is a king who fights for us and has the final authority over our lives. We are to represent God’s kingdom on this earth as servants of King Jesus. Josiah showed us a picture of Satan and a king playing chess. His point from the picture was, “The King has one more move.” Situations, circumstances in your life are not over until King Jesus has His last move.
- What makes it difficult for you to serve others?
- What does God’s word say about who we should serve?
- Can you see Jesus as your king and you serving Him?
Philippians 1:27 – Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in the one Spirit, striving together as one for the faith of the gospel.
Philippians 2:7-11 – But He (Christ) emptied Himself, taking upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in the form of a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient until death on a cross. Therefore, God highly exalted Him and gave Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
