Dream Home Makeover
Message Summary: In the scripture there are two promises made. We see the first promise in the beginning of Mathew 7:25 where it says, “the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house.” Storms are going to happen, there is nothing we can do to stop them, but this passage ends by saying, “yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.” This second promise tells us that if we build our life on the foundation of Christ, we will stand firm against the storms that pass.
Everyone has a foundation they have built their life on. We build it based on our principles, by the experiences we have, and what we tell ourselves. The experience of having a cheating spouse could lead you to believe that people are not trustworthy or being abandoned by a parent could cause you to believe that there is something unlovable about you. These foundations can’t stand against the storms, eventually we will get beat down and fall. The good news is that we can dig out the sand and place ourselves on a new foundation, one that shows us goodness, grace, and love in all things. However, this new foundation doesn’t come without us putting work into it. The scripture says that we not only have to hear the words we also have to put them into practice. This means that we have to act on the words of Christ and live out the ways of Jesus.
- Your foundation is made up of your core beliefs, the stories you tell yourself, and the words you speak. When you look at those things right now, how does your foundation look?
- When have you felt like you’re not going to make it or that you were just tired of life?
- What does it mean that Christ is our foundation?
- How do we build our life on this foundation?
Matthew 7:24-27 – “Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
