For You – Generosity
Message Summary: Generosity is good for you because it lowers your stress. A lot of times we carry stress because we are worried about our money. Generosity doesn’t start with writing a bigger check. It starts with trusting God and releasing the control.
Generosity is good for the church because it helps the church be generous to the community.
1. Josiah said, “There is nothing God has given you that he doesn’t want you to give to others.” What does that mean to you, and is there something you are hanging on to that you could share with others?
2. Has there ever been a time where you were reluctant to give up control and trust God with money or in any other area of your life?
3. Why do you think it’s so difficult for people to trust God in their finances?
4.Generosity isn’t solely about finances. In what ways can you be more generous right now? Is there something you can do as a group to extend generosity to others?
5. Is there anything else that stood out to you about today’s message?
2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NIV – Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:11-15 NIV – You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, others will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!
1 John 4:19 NIV – We love because he first loved us
Matthew 6:19-21; 24-34 NIV – “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
