Going Backwards to Move Forwards
Message Summary:
No family is perfect.
Everyone has had pain and hardship within their family life. We all have some mess within our stories. This can have generational impacts.
Joseph’s family is jealous of him.
Joseph tells his brothers of the dream he has about his brothers bowing down to worship him. This causes his brothers to sell Joseph to the Egyptians and tell their father that he has died. Joseph interprets dreams while in jail in Egypt, which causes the Pharaoh to call on him and favor him. The Holy Spirit gives Joseph a dream of a terrible famine, which Joseph warns the Pharaoh of. It spreads throughout the land that a famine is coming, and his brothers travel to Egypt to find food. This causes them to see their brother alive for the first time in years.
Be Honest
No matter how difficult it can be, we must be honest about our past so that we can address any issues and move forward.
Hold on to Hope
We must fight against hopelessness. Our hope is not in our circumstance. We have to hold on to hope that God is good and wants what is good for us.
Change Clothes
There are things we need to let go of, in order to move forward. Move out of your comfort zone.
1. How will you look backwards in your life, to promote healing, and move forward in God’s plan for you?
2. Looking inward, what are some ways you can look more honestly at your past?
3. How can you become more hopeful this week?
4. In what ways is God bringing good things into your life?
