Stand Alone Part 1
Message Summary: For true repentance and baptism to take place, there needs to be fertile soil to sow into. As one would ensure the right nutrients is in the soil of their yard to yield lush greenery, so too the heart of a person needs to have a good foundation of faith planted to germinate a life reflective of a true disciple of Christ and therefore make disciples of others.
Disciples of Christ must walk out and demonstrate their faith by repenting (turning away from their sins), submitting to the ways of Christ, publicly displaying their covenant with God through water baptism to symbolize; the dying of the old man (sinful nature) and raising (resurrected) with Christ as a new creature, and making disciples. Repentance and baptism are patterns found throughout New Testament.
Jesus tells us what to believe and what to do.
- Jesus is the risen King. Worship Him and and doubt not.
- All authority has been given to Him in heaven and on the earth.
- Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father, The Sin, and the Holy Spirit.
- Teach them to witness all things He taught and commanded.
God’s promises are:
- Know He is always with you even to the end of the age.
- Once you repent, get baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
- You are dead to sin and alive in God.
- Why is only going to church not enough when you are committed to following Jesus?
- Why is the Great Commission so important for believers to follow?
- Why is it important to repent as a follower of Christ?
- What is the importance of water baptism to a Christian?
- What next steps can you take to ensure you are being an exemplary disciple of Christ?
Mathew 28:16-20 – The Great Commission “Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. Amen.
Matthew 28:18 – “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.”
John 20:29 – “Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Ephesians 4:4-6 – “There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.”
Acts 2:38 – “Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 6:1-3 – “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?”
