Watch List: A Man Called Otto
Message Summary: We are made for connection and to be in community. We are a family! At times we may feel alone, but we know that at all times, Jesus is with us.
We are neighbors, coworkers, friends, and partners with many people. Are we doing and being the church that described in the Book of Acts, chapter two? Many times, we are not, instead, we are consumed by our own circumstances. God desires us to live like him with radical love, servanthood, and grace to everyone around us. Because of the Holy Spirit we are capable of living like Zacchaeus from the book of Luke. We can choose to have an impact of good by living out life like Jesus wants for us. We can be someone who mirrors Jesus, leaving behind a legacy for those around us by choosing servanthood and grace.
Give and Receive. This is how to be a good neighbor.
Open yourself up, step out of your comfort zone and be Jesus in your neighborhood!
- Do you feel you are a good neighbor?
- How can you improve your impact in the community?
- What small moves can you make? What large moves can you make?
- What are some of the negative patterns you have adopted in your life that are contrary to Acts 2:42-47? How can you change these?
- What does Jesus say about those living in the middle, neither hot nor cold?
Romans 8:15 – “So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children.”
Psalms 139:7-12 – “I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night but even in the darkness I cannot hide from you”
Matthew 28:20 – Teach these new disciples to obey all commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.
Acts 2:42-47 – “All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, and to sharing in meals (including the Lord’s Supper) and to prayer. A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need. They worshipped together at the Temple each day, met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosity – all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved.
Genesis 2:18 – “Then the Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper who is just right for him.’”
Luke 19:5 – “When Jesus came by, he looked up at Zacchaeus and called him by name. “Zacchaeus!” he said. “Quick come down! I must be a guest in your home today.”
